The 1st day of freezing rain resulted in some bent trees and a few branches lost and no power but the second night was one of constant explosions as trees rupture under tons of ice and 3 – 4 times the volume of ice of the first night . Have a look and tell me what you think . I did not take photos of all the busted power poles but even as I post there are about 1/5 of our population in this county with out power starting the 3rd week . I have power now and it is my BirthDay . God bless !
After the first night :
After the Second night of very heavy freezing rain followed by 40 min. of snow gave this :

It looks like a hurricane went through there.
I am glad to hear that you finally have power again. My friend raphahrose was the first to encourage me to pray for those in the midst of this storm in her post on January 29th. Since then I have not taken a hot bath, felt the warmth coming from our electric heaters or read a book by bright lamplight without appreciation of these luxuries, and I have remembered you in my prayers. I hope you birthday is a special one!
Wow. Those pictures are something else. They’re pretty to look at but I’m glad I’m in Phoenix. Happy belated birthday Barry.
@LSP1 - Thanks Larry , I wish I could have been in Phoenix for the two weeks we were with out power ! The sounds through the 2nd night was the hardest every explosion you wondered if the tree was going to crash through your home as you laid there . sometimes you could hear 2 or more crashes each min. and it was cold as you laid there .

Very bad storm!!! We went through a similar one several years ago ~ we shall never forget it ~
@fwren - The hard thing was 14 days with No Heat (all electric) ! The temps. at night ranged from 9 to 16 and we could heat soup with 2 candles when we got up the 1st 6 days . At lunch I could cook food by picking up sticks and beating ice from them . We would try to get warm in my truck just before we would climb in bed so we could hear news of where we could go to buy gas or food and gear to make the stay a little better . God was so good through it all each day we traveled out to see if other family made it through with out harm from fallen trees . 25 died from exposure or accidents relating to the Ice Storm .
God bless !

WOW !!!!
Some of the shots are nice, I would tweak them a bit to make them really pop….Photoshop is everyone’s friend.
If I had a camera during that time, I would have took a picture of that huge line of people driving all the way to paris, tenn. to pump gas into their vehicles. Sorta begged a few questions. Won’t they need gas that much more after driving for 40 minutes…especially if a 40 minute drive turns into a L.A. traffic jam half way through with the heaters blasting on high. (shall we also include the wait at the handful of stations plus the drive back?)
That and that power line that was pulled down to about 7 ft off the ground by that extremely heavy ice.
Frankly, the whole affair was quite fun for me, didn’t have to work for nearly a week and I got to grill some tasty burgers. My milk was always ice cold sitting in the snow, and all the conversation you can handle. The insomnia was murder though, absolutely drove me mad.
@DarthPatriot - I remember my try to reach Paris , I gave up due to the stand still line . On the way back to Murray we foun by radio a station open there after waiting for a chance to pull in Mylinda found out they had open to sell smokes and milk so we went back to our county and home .
Mylinda developed over 150 photos and you should come by to see them . Monday we are taking a sweat lady in her 80s to an Oral Surgen to get her ready for an upper denture. We should be back after lunch so call if you want . Friday going back to Bowling Green for 2 more crown preps. on Friday and on Sat. will go with our class to Mayfield to see “The Promise”. Don’t forget about Tornado Watch 117 In Effect Until 6 Pm Cdt This Evening .
God bless you !
